My Body Confidence Journey: Day 14 - Gratitude boosts confidence!
Essentially, I am using it as a mindfulness technique based on scanning through my body, starting from my toes and working my way up to the top of my head, whilst finding/ thinking of reasons to be grateful for each body part. This, coupled with taking slow, calm, deep breaths – is amazing for your body confidence.
So, for example, “I am grateful for my legs because I can walk my dog, drive, play football and be able to do my job. I am grateful for my hips because…” etc.
Now, there are lots of ‘Body Scan’ meditations and mindfulness audios out there, each with different focuses and purposes; but you could also just try to find a quiet spot during the day, even for 5-10 minutes, to try this technique independently – without audios!
As you may have noticed, this is a more chilled out version of the ‘Changing Room Buddy’ exercise I discussed with you back on Day 3. The ‘Love Your Body Better’ meditation (link below) or ‘Grateful Me’ on the HappiMe app (link below) are also good starting points for this exercise, if you feel a guided audio is better for you.
So… STRATEGY 1: Practice a body scan of gratitude! I plan to bring in an expert over the next few weeks to talk more about gratitude, as I thought that would mix things up a little bit, whom I’m sure will have a number of fun and valuable strategies for you too!
