My Body Confidence Journey: Day 18 - How to stop binging and emotional eating!
This goes hand-in-hand with the message I shared a few days ago, when I was talking about putting a time limit on when I can eat something. I really wanted to eat chocolate, so I decided to take control by saying I could have it, but had to wait for 30 minutes. This wasn’t depriving me of anything, I was just controlling when I ate. This then lead to me wanted to eat less of the chocolate than usual, probably since I was so proud of myself for waiting.
Therefore, I know that I need to continue using my tools - like EFT, helpful thoughts and mindfulness - to encourage me get more pleasure from controlling my eating habits, than the short-term pleasure I get from over-eating.
I know some of my recent video diaries and blogs have been based pretty heavily on food and binging, but I am just going with the flow. As I work on my body-confidence, I find myself wanting to take better care of my health, and with that comes improving my relationship with food. I much better cycle than the cycle I plan to talk about tomorrow! Therefore, my mental health (how I feel about myself) is directly impacting my physical health (my eating habits). Does that make sense?
STRATEGY 1: I challenge you to start controlling your eating habits (if you feel this would be good for you), by holding off on binging or eating “treats” for 30-120 minutes. Start with small time periods, then work your way up as you feel stronger and less overwhelmed. Also, accept that sometimes you might cave in and eat it anyway… Remember, we are only human and we aren’t meant to be perfect! This is how we learn and grow.
