My Body Confidence Journey: Day 23 - Interrupt your thinking patterns to think more helpfully!
I mentioned back in Day 3 and 4’s videos that some of us use negative language to bully ourselves on a daily basis, without even realising. Which leads me to STRATEGY 1: Turn the volume up on the negative or low-energy language and labels you use to describe yourself and your body or appearance, and make notes of them in your phone or in a diary (this only works if you’re honest with yourself!). Journaling can be really helpful too. I advise you to do this for up to 5-7 days. You’ll find a lot of your negative thoughts are recurring.
Then, try STRATEGY 2: Create a list (or a playlist on the HappiMe App – link below) of helpful thoughts. This is really simple… Take your original negative thought, “I hate my tummy,” and change it to something like, “I thank my tummy for digesting everything I eat” or, if you’ve had children, “I thank my tummy and womb for holding my beautiful child and bringing life into this world!” (Thank you, Aly!).
Finally, try STRATEGY 3: This is a new one, as I haven’t share this yet! Try interrupting the pattern (Tony Robbins exercise). Whenever you catch yourself thinking of your old, unhelpful thought, tap on your collar bone twice, whilst repeating “delete, delete”, then repeat your more helpful thought process. Another good thing to add to this is a smile, as this always makes us feel a little bit better, even when we’re having a tough day.
Over time, your brain will make connections to the new, more helpful thought – the more you practice this technique, the stronger the connection will become. It’s just like learning any new skill.
So, to recap: Stage 1) Write out your negative thoughts, 2) Change them to more helpful statements and 3) Interrupt the pattern by tapping your collar bone and repeating “delete, delete”; whilst thinking of your new, helpful thought.
If you watched Sunday’s video on goal setting, then perhaps you can use the CAPP method to set yourself a goal to do the above, and make some positive changes to your body confidence!
I have popped a link to Tony Robbins’ website below.
Have an amazing day.
Thank you for watching.
Be proud. Be you.
