My Body Confidence Journey: Day 33 - Accepting compliments is so important!
Whether you are complimenting yourself or have received kind words from someone else; I think that learning to accept compliments can really help when it comes to changing some of those pesky, deep-rooted, negative beliefs about yourself, your abilities and your appearance. This is because if you can learn to accept words of love and kindness from others, you are more likely to accept them from yourself.
If you’re like how I used to be, I would always bat a compliment back at someone or refuse to accept it, with a comment like, “ah, this old thing?” or, “thanks, but I’m not sure it suits me…” Why do we do that?
Why do we insist on preventing other people from being kind to us about things we maybe don’t believe ourselves?
If you’re trying to work on your body image and how you feel about yourself, please remember how important it is to accept compliments from elsewhere, as in time, this will cement the belief that you are beautiful. Now this might sound odd, as I know it isn’t about other people’s opinions, but if you’re still comparing the negative stuff about yourself; why not accept the positive, more helpful stuff too?
So, here’s your challenge. The next time you receive a compliment, accept it gracefully and return it with something equally as kind… This is so powerful, because when we start to feel good about ourselves, and allow other people to feel good about themselves… They are more likely to pass on kind words to others too. Let’s create a ripple effect of positivity, rather than continue to live in a society of low body confidence. The wise and great Ghandi once said, “…be the change you want to see in the world”.
Have an amazingly wonderful day.
Thank you for watching.
Be proud. Be you.
