My Body Confidence Journey: Day 39 - How your mental and physical health work together!
In life, things happen that affect out mental health, and the same goes for our physical health. However, if our mental health isn’t looked after properly, then the symptoms of this start to show up in our physical body. For example, have you ever received a negative message from someone and felt sick, tearful or felt like your stomach was doing somersaults? This is a perfect example. Now, if this happens, and you decide to go away and take some deep breaths, maybe even meditate or practice EFT to let go of this and realise that it’s their problem, not yours, then you are looking after your mental health. If, instead, you do what I used to do and turn to food (or perhaps you prefer alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc…) to deal with this, then we are doing the opposite… We are now creating problems for our physical health. These problems start small; like a bad tummy, or a headache... Then they get bigger; like weight gain, aches and pains... And before you know if, your health may begin to spiral out of control.
This is my message. Make sure you are looking after your mental health. Whether that’s by going to therapy, meditating, practicing mindfulness, EFT, reciting helpful thoughts or some other self-care technique… That’s great. Try to turn to these tools first, before picking up the biscuits or the glass of wine.
You are amazing. You are beautiful. You are kind. Don’t let the words, behaviour or attitude of others change what you think about yourself. Look after YOU.
