My Body Confidence Journey: Day 50 – The hurdles I've overcome to improve my body image!
First up, I’d like to discuss some of the hardest parts of this journey so far...
If I’m honest, I have felt really anxious at some points throughout this journey in terms of “performing well”. I am known for being somewhat of a perfectionist; and since I value honesty, integrity and fairness, I know I had no choice but to keep going, no matter how tough it got. This has meant facing some serious “demons” and coming to terms with some feelings and beliefs that I would normally just ignore. Now, of course, I am really pleased that I have finally worked on the final parts of myself that were holding my body confidence back – but that doesn’t mean it has been easy. I guess my advice is to make sure you go easy on yourself, because we all have “demons” that need to be faced, and that can be really scary.
The next thing was how public this journey has been for me. By this I mean how many of my friends, social media followers and acquaintances were now aware of my deepest, darkest “secrets”. The hardest part was talking about emotional eating and binge eating I think, since this is so private and has been going on since I was, well, a child.
In short, having to be honest with myself and others about my true feelings and thoughts has probably been the most difficult, but at the same time, the most rewarding.
Now, there have been SO MANY positives, it would be impossible to list them all! I guess I’ll share some of my favourites…
The open, honest and free conversations I have had with other people that can relate to my story and talk about how they’re feeling has been a real honour. I would go as far to say that your messages, feedback and our conversations have made this process totally worth it – and at times, has kept me going.
Refreshing and “recycling” my favourite self-help tools and strategies to improve my body confidence has been a real eye-opener and great fun too. As I have mentioned in previous blogs and videos, I conquered most of my anxiety a few years ago using the tools I have shared along this journey, so I am really happy that I have used them again, to improve an area of my life that has really held me back.
The progress I have made has also been immense. The “fat” girl who hid behind jumpers and baggy clothes now wears tight tops, short sleeves, brighter colours, figure hugging outfits, even shorts in public… What?! Utter madness. Not only that, after having my undercut, buying half a new wardrobe and enjoying the summer weather – I feel like the new Abby is the Abby that I was meant to be all along.
Please, I cannot stress enough, go back to Day 1 and check out the tools and techniques I have used to get me this far in less than 2 months – because I want you to feel as good as I do right now. Do you know why? Because you absolutely deserve it.
Lots of love.
Be proud. Be you.
