My Body Confidence Journey: Day 51 – Mantras and meditation can improve body confidence!
I wanted to share this with you since part of this journey to body confidence relates very much to the acts of self-acceptance, self-forgiveness and, yes, you guessed it... Self-compassion. In the meditation, the narrator repeats the following statement and asks you to recite it too:
“I’m having a hard time right now, everyone feels this way sometimes, may I be kind to myself in this moment, may I give myself the compassion I need.”
I really liked the idea of using this as a mantra, so that’s my strategy for today! STRATEGY 1: Put together a short mantra that you can recall easily; touching on acceptance, forgiveness and compassion towards yourself. The more you recite this (throughout the day, every day), the more familiar it will become... The more familiar it is, the more your brain will begin to believe that this statement is true. The brain craves familiarity – so the best way to expand your comfort zone is to make the unfamiliar – familiar. The second step is to be congruent. If you are reciting a statement like the one Lisa Abramson uses, then your actions need to match. By this I mean, forgive yourself for any mistakes you make; accept yourself as you are, even if you’re having a “bad day”; show yourself love and compassion, which is what any kind person deserves.
