A great gratitude book...‘Words of Gratitude: Mind, Body & Soul’ – Robert A. Emmons & Joanna Hill
Learning to experience gratitude involves being grateful as an attitude, not as a reaction when good things occur. To be grateful, one does not need to wait until things are perfect. In fact, practicing gratitude makes one receptive to life's blessings, and these blessings continue as we continue to be thankful. Check it out here. How do I practice gratitude?“Start each day with a positive thought and a grateful heart.” – Roy T. Bennett
Over the past few days, we have shared why gratitude is so fantastic… Now we are going to share our top tips for incorporating gratitude into your life! 1. Start small… At the beginning and end of each day, find 3 things you are grateful for. This could be family, friends, your home, a recent life event, or even a learning experience… Today, I was grateful for my coffee machine as it definitely helped me get out of bed! 2. Journaling… Once you have practiced gratitude for a week, start keeping a journal – it can be an app or a physical diary, whatever you prefer. Try to find as many things as you can every morning and evening that you feel thankful for… By now, you will notice that you think more positively throughout the day, too! 3. Meditate... When you feel comfortable with your practice, perhaps after a few weeks, why not try meditating? Simply sit or lay down, and when you’re ready, take around 5 long, deep breaths. When you reach your “calm point”, allow your mind to float through the memory of your day, smiling each time you find something you’re grateful for. Try these steps for one month and see if you feel any different! How else can HappiMe help you or your child? Does gratitude improve your health?“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” – Aesop
Since we are focusing on gratitude this week, we thought we should share some of the amazing health benefits of practicing thankfulness (yes, gratitude improves your health!). Here it goes! 1. Gratitude improves your sleep… Practicing gratitude improves your mood as it allows you to release negative energies and emotions. As a result, your mind will become quieter and calmer, which in turn can improve your sleep. Find out more by reading Psychology Today’s great article. 2. Gratitude helps you to heal… Not only by helping you get a good night’s sleep, keeping up a regular practice enhances your view of the world. You’ll find yourself seeking and finding positives in your day. When you think positively, you feel positive… And positive energy heals the body! Find out more in Louise Hay’s amazing book, ‘Heal Your Life’. 3. Gratitude encourages a healthy lifestyle… When you’re ‘living in gratitude’ you will find that you want to take better care of yourself as you value yourself and your life more. You’ll notice that you eat less junk and feel more motivated to exercise more… Take a look at this great article for more information. This week, we will be focusing on arguably the most important topic right now – the Black Lives Matter movement. This summer has seen public tragedy and heartbreak, which has led to more social change than the world has seen in decades, so we wish to use our platform to support this change and help put a stop to the tragic realities the black community have been facing up until now. The team at HappiMe want to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, and we wish to show this through dedicating this week’s posts to the BLM movement.
