Most adults can appreciate why gratitude is important, but many children think that gratitude is all about keeping on top of their “Ps & Qs”. Of course, in some respects, gratitude is about saying “thank you”, but it’s also so much more. Gratitude is a feeling, or a state, rather than just a word or phrase. Of course, we can say “thanks” for things that we have in our lives, but to be truly grateful is to FEEL in your HEART rather than just speaking aloud. Yesterday, we gave you some great goal setting methods to help you get started with your New Year’s Resolutions… Today, we wanted to give you some tips on how to stay motivated and achieve what you set out to do. Tip 1. Get an accountability buddy, or put together a group. You can create a group chat, or even a private page on Facebook to post your goals and encourage one another to achieve them. Go a step further and arrange a weekly or monthly coffee to catch-up and offer pep talks! Tip 2. Don’t try to do too much! We advise only setting 2 or 3 goals (maximum) for shorter periods of time. Check out the next tip for more on this… Tip 3. Keep it bitesize. If your ultimate goal is to “dance on stage in front of 100 people by the June 30th”, then set a smaller goal, like “choreograph and learn a dance before January 31st“ or “dance in front of family before January 31st”. To get you started, here’s the HappiMe goal setting method. CAPP Goals can help turn an idea into an achievable goal. You may also like to use the SMART or SMARTER methods. C – Is your goal CLEAR? Do you know what you are doing? A – Is it ACHIEVABLE? Being realistic is imperative. P – What PERIOD of TIME have you given yourself? Be specific, for example, date or number of days. P – What is you PLAN? How will you get there? Whichever method you use, why not get some goals set today?
