The Power Pose!“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.” – Mark Twain
Over the past few days, we have been discussing what confidence is and how best to start building it. Today’s strategy is for those who felt that yesterday’s wasn’t their thing, or for anyone who’d like to try something else too. Remember, do not overwhelm yourself, so try to only implement a new strategy every 2-4 weeks. Today’s strategy is possibly the most famous… The Power Pose! As you probably know, HappiMe works with children and young people, and if we introduce this activity into the sessions (normally after 6-8 weeks), they really enjoy it…This tool was even used on Grey’s Anatomy a few seasons ago, just before Amelia Sheppard went into a big surgery! Stand upright, hands on hips, chest puffed, chin up and legs parallel to your hips. Take a deep breath, smile and recite a short mantra (more on this on Friday) that makes you feel happy. For example, “I am strong”, “I am confident”, or “I am brave”. Try to do this for 2 minutes at the beginning of each day and see if you feel any different after 30-days. If you haven’t already, we would advise you to go away and read our last 2 posts too. Remember, there is not a “one size fits all” with these tools, so it’s important to try things out to see what works for you. If you are a struggling parent/carer, we are currently offering free consultations. Please contact us when you feel ready. If you feel in need of support or specific advice, please get in touch. How else can HappiMe help you or your child? We offer targeted coaching programmes, which can be really useful for supporting you to develop more helpful thinking patterns. Find out more here.
