"I just feel exhausted… I keep snapping… I can’t stop crying...""I just feel exhausted… I keep snapping… I can’t stop crying!”
How many times have you said any of these statements, or perhaps heard a friend, child or colleague say it? Our first piece of advice is to take a breath, allow yourself to acknowledge how you’re feeling and then find a way to accept it… Emotions are a natural part of being human. However, it is important to learn to recognise your triggers, and when things in your life may be a little bit overwhelming. When you’re able to do this, you will be able to implement helpful tools and strategies that allow you to manage these emotions, this overwhelm or any of these challenges better. For example, as a teenager, I was prone to anxiety. New people, experiences, showing vulnerability… All of these things lead to me wanting to stay inside and hide under the covers. After realising that this was overtaking my life, I decided to learn some helpful strategies to help me both pre-anxiety and during my anxious episodes. I discovered mindfulness and found practicing “deliberate breathing” (by which I mean focusing on my breath as it entered and left my body for just 60-seconds), gave me enough time to take back control of some of this anxiety. That is our first strategy of the week… Mindful breathing! www.happi-me.org #MentalHealth #TransformationTuesday #Anxiety #SelfEsteem #Support #Mindfulness #Bristol
